SPC to host Senior Sneak Preview on Feb. 10 for high school students

LEVELLAND – More than 700 area high school seniors will get a preview of college life during the annual South Plains College Senior Sneak Preview set for Friday (Feb. 10) on the Levelland campus.

The day-long event begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the Texan Dome. SPC cheerleaders and student leaders will host the opening assembly at 9:30 a.m.

High School seniors will have the chance to talk with SPC faculty and current students about career choices, programs and student life during the Program Showcase at 10 a.m.

Parents will be included in the festivities with their own special session in the Physical Education Complex. They will receive information about financial aid, scholarships, testing, career planning, housing and admission.

Campus tours will begin at 11 a.m. followed by an Open House at noon in the PE Complex. Representatives from student services as well as members of clubs and organizations will be on hand to answer questions. Housing tours will be conducted during the Open House. Lunch also will be served.

Chocolate and Wine – need we say more? Llano Estacado Winery is excited to host their 20th Annual Chocolate Fantasia event on February 11th from 6:30-8:30PM here at the winery!

Chocolate Fantasia will feature over two dozen competitors that spend weeks designing a chocolate sculpture of their own creativity along with samples of chocolate delights for guests to enjoy. Over 5,000 samples were served at the 19th annual event, including a new savory category in which guests enjoyed shrimp drizzled with a white chocolate sauce and brisket bites smothered in a creamy mole sauce.

Local celebrity judges as well as experts from across the country will be awarding prizes in four categories including; Best of Show, and Judges’ Artistic Merit Award. Guest votes are included in the People’s choice and Champion of Savory Chocolate awards.

This annual event is put on in coordination with Llano Estacado Winery, The ACF Texas Panhandle Chefs de Cuisine and the Southwest Parkinson’s Society. Tickets are available for purchase in person or over the phone at Llano Estacado Winery and are $75 a person with partial proceeds benefiting the Southwest Parkinson’s Society. Tickets include complimentary wine, chocolate samples, light hors d’oeuvres and a commemorative glass.

Sounds of West Texas Classic Music ConcertSaturday, February 18th will be at held at the Cactus Theater 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue (in Lubbock) for the first show of 2017!  The doors will open at 6:15, there will be some door prizes at 6:45, and this classic music concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. This show will feature fantastic local talent presenting a “Classic Love Songs” concert with a variety of music including countryand pop nostalgia.   The Sounds of West Texas show is unique in that lucky audience members can win door prizes, some of the performers sing jingles for a few of the businesses that sponsor, and the audience will enjoy a wide variety of many of the best songs ever written and a bit of comedy.  There will be a rare appearance by comedy act, “Minerva and the Pearls,” and it will be a one of a kind performance! This is a show that is fun for the whole family.  Featured performers will be:  Lynn Alexander, Larry AllenKaci (KeltzBrice, Jerry Brownlow, Steve Burrus, Mike CarrawayDanny DukatnikCraig Elliott, Mike Huffman, Darryl Lippe, Donnetta Lippe, Minerva and the Pearls”, Donnie Martin, Johnny Richardson, Kallie Rogers, Betty Smith, Brent Smith, Keith Smith,  Riley Solberg, Wendell Sollis, Mark Wallney, and Steve Williams.   A special guest for the evening will be Nashville songwriter and former student from South Plains College, Jason Sever.  There will be reserved seating only.  Tickets are $20 or $15 and can be purchased online (by clicking on the exact seats wanted and purchasing right then) at the Cactus Theater website: cactustheater.com or can be purchased at Cactus Theater box office by phone(806.762.3233), or in person. Hosted by Smith South Plains and the Senior Class parents, this event will raise money for “Casino Night,” the seniors’ after prom event. For every test drive taken during the event, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the Levelland High School Class of 2017. Come out, have a great time and help us raise up to $6,000 for the senior class!

Cirque du Soleil is coming to Texas next spring to present its newest touring arena show, “OVO,”!  The production will be playing in Lubbock March 8 – 12 at the United Supermarkets Arena!

The Rock & Worship Roadshow is coming to Lubbock, TX on March 24, 2017!

This show was such a hit we are bringing it back with a twist! Jerry, Steve and Cary are coming back to put on another great show for us! We will host this event at the Brasch-Mitchell Building to enable patrons who can’t join us on the second floor of the Wallace to get in on the fun!

The Wallace Theater will host a free reception starting at 6:15pm with light food and beverages. At 7:00 pm we will ask all patrons to start making their way, one block over, to the Brasch-Mitchell building for the show. We will also have special transportation available.

Patrons are also welcome to B.Y.O.B. “Bring your own beverage.” We will have glasses and mixers available for sale at both the Wallace Theater and the Brasch-Mitchell Building.

Tickets are $40.00.

Tickets for South Plains College Students are half price. – Use code promotional code “SPC” at checkout. You will need to show your SPC idea at the door the night of the event.
